以“九·一八”事变后全国风起云涌的抗日浪潮为背景，上海滩劳工会馆一群爱国义士，不满蒋介石政府的不抵抗政策，拿起枪来与日本特务展开搏杀，并在“一·二八”淞沪会战中与日军决战。众弟兄经过血与火的考验，有的继续抗争，有的却倒向了蒋介石政府的特工组织，并成为特工头目，于是，原先的兄弟情深变成了反目成仇，双方在大上海又展开新一轮博弈，不断互相暗杀。期间，在地下党的影响下，劳工会馆的弟兄们认识到暗杀没有出路，光靠江湖好汉的抗日锄奸赶不走日本人，要救中国还得靠共产党。在与特工组织进行最后的较量后，他们终于杀死了血债累累的特工头目，奔向延安。
开始在憧憬的人手下工作的青叶，虽然对于第一次的工作感到困惑，但在以光为首的充满个性的前辈社员的帮助下一点一点地成长着。
与这样的军队联同作战，人数上是有所增加，但实际上并无多大用处。
