故事发生在1800年代中期荷属东印度群岛殖民时期，一群背景各异的人起身反抗总督的残暴统治，不久便掌控荷军驻扎过的格里斯小镇。片中剧情围绕着数个拥有不同背景与信念的独特角色发展，他们团结一致努力摆脱暴政的钳制，争取决定自己命运的机会。
