电影果然不负众望，Daniel Day-Lewis的表现真可用无懈可击来形容。他将一位石油大亨的悲喜人生与奋斗之路展示得丰满之至，层次分明。他的表情，语气，肢体动作无一不是精心匠作，恰到好处，让观众完全融入到对人物的感受中从而忘却演员本人。可以说， Daniel Day-Lewis将凭此角色再获奥斯卡最佳男主角几乎毫无疑问。
