1989年，大卫·林奇拍了Twin Peaks: Pilot ，讲述FBI探员Dale Cooper 去双峰镇，调查女中学生Laura Palmer被谋杀事件。以大卫·林奇的一贯作风，整出片子到处充满了神秘事件和诡异疑点，而且没有结局可言。这大概引起了观众的不满，或者好奇心。于是，电视台或是创作班底决定以这个为起点，将它发展成一部连续剧。出于神秘的原因，David Lynch不愿担任导演，而是出任执行监制，找了另外的导演来拍摄这部剧集。结果Twin Peaks第1集就已经是一部续集，这就是为什么在第1集时的片头就有“双峰之前”，交代前面的故事。大卫·林奇的《双峰》是美国90年代最为着名的电视剧之一。曾荣获1990年美国电视评论协会大奖，1997年美国金球奖最佳男女主角奖，1991年美国艾美奖8项大奖，1991年美国广播协会最佳电视剧奖，而大卫·林奇也因此登上了《时代》杂志的封面。这部剧集与大卫?林奇的电影作品有很大不同之处，人物众多但个性分明，故事线索分支不多但剧情峰回路转，许多人被Lora的死亡之迷所吸引，也为侦探怪异的侦破方式着迷，虽然到最后也在电视版本中也没交代谜底（虽然林奇宣称他在第二集告诉了观众凶手是谁了），但对人类欲望中产阶级的生活的剖解的相当深刻。而林奇的忠实影迷也不会失望，整部剧集所呈现的特异风格，纠结了怪诞唯美与迷离的气氛，都是大卫?林奇的经典本色。其中Lora还被《Time》誉为电视史上最性感的死尸 。
