Seward、战争部长Edwin M. Stanton、财政部长Salmon P. Chase眼中的林肯，这些人都曾是林肯竞选总统时的竞争者，但后来被林肯强大的人格魅力所感召，成为他的得力干将。故事围绕着南北战争展开，在那段艰难的日子里，面对种种压力，林肯和他的团队运筹帷幄，最终打赢了这场战争，统一了美国。
