《爱情宝典》分五个故事，其中有三个故事出自元、明杂剧经典，如《救风尘》、《绿牡丹》、《墙头马上》、《风筝误》，还有两个故事出自明清话本小说，如《小棋士》、《卖油郎独占花魁》。
