故事发生于2008年5月12日，四川汶川发生了特大地震。“一方有难、八方支援”，全国各地纷纷到达前线救灾，尽自己最大的努力救助受灾群众。山东省日照市莒县东皂湖村的十位农民，第一时间自发地驾驶自家农用三轮车，经历三天四夜，行程三千公里奔赴救灾前线。
于是，多次挑战大洞的冒险者们，逐渐被称为“探窟家”。
