电影剧本会由侯孝贤和朱天文以及阿城帮忙打造，目前定下的演员只有舒淇和张震，金城武、浅野忠信等人也在接洽中。《聂隐娘》对侯孝贤的最大挑战是商业诉求，他的作品除了出道时候的喜剧片和少数几个片子，其他无一例外丧失了本岛市场，只能走上无奈的国际影展路线。侯孝贤如何在商业导向的压力下保持个人风格以及创作自由，他能作出何等改变将是一大看点。此外由于杨德昌没能完成北宋的追风少年（资金缺口太大），侯孝贤梦回唐朝的侠女传奇更是多出一番意义。
