本剧的故事开始于我国抗战刚胜利初期，国民党晋西北的晋绥军蠢蠢欲动。其隔河相守的八路军某旅的狼队与之摩擦不断。随着战事升级，狼队 掩护 大部队跳出包围圈，随即跟随359旅转战到陕北。在陕北战场上，狼队展现出非凡的战斗才能和傲人的战术智慧。首长亲自授予他们“西北狼”的称号，让他们在西北战场狠咬“西北王”胡宗南。
