孤独的美食家该剧是根据久住昌之创作、谷口治郎作画的同名漫画改编而成，原作目前正在《周刊SPA！》（扶桑社）进行不定期连载当中，讲述的是一名独自经营进口杂货商店的男子井之头五郎，在工作间隙前往餐馆当中吃饭的场景的故事。作品中登场的餐馆全部都是实际存在的，其中一个重要的特点就在于基本上都是一些大众化的餐馆，只不过作品中并不是单纯地描述食文化，而是着重表现主人公吃饭的场景以及心理描写。
