本剧主要描写出了小主人公佳杰在即将成为成年人这一转型期经历的种种心理变化，讲述了一个单亲孩子在两个家庭中的迷失和回归。单亲母亲丁桦（肖雄饰）对独子丁佳杰（毛孩饰）过份溺爱，使其未能健康地成长，而出现了诸多问题。佳杰的生父成强（郭旭新饰）和后妈舒蔚然（闫妮饰）对此颇为焦虑，不顾丁桦对自己的怨恨而尽力帮教佳杰。丁桦在严酷的现实中幡然醒悟，迫不得已采取特殊手段，逼子离家，促其历经生存的磨难、良知的挑战、品格的锻造。佳杰在闯荡中，守诚信、讲道义、负责任、见义勇为、助人为乐；但屡屡受挫深切地感受了人间冷暖，体验了什么叫羞耻、尊严和卑劣、高尚。他在迷茫中思索，在混沌中探究，在碰壁中顿悟，在摔打中启蒙，原本无可救药的逆子终于成长起来。丁桦与成强和蔚然也在共同教育儿子的过程中，消除了积怨，一起走向和谐的新生活……
